Aside from the special effects, the one the thing that really blew me away about this move was the sound design. I had never heard many of the sounds in this film before and bear in mind I’ve probably seen every sci-fi movie and am a sound engineer! I immediately wanted to know what VSTs or plugins they used for many of the sounds in the film and was particularly blown away by the sound that big Alien drill made.

Anyhow, I came across this little video which gives some insight into the team behind the sound design for Man of Steel and while they don’t give away what plugins they used, they do show some cool field recordings they did to get particular sounds. Its inspiring to see the lengths some sound designers will go to to create completely new sounds instead of relying on googling for stock sounds.
